Bunker Hills Golf Course
Project Cost: $1,300,000
Completion in April 2000
This project includes a maintenance building, cart storage building, and several rest stations that are scattered throughout the golf course. Using limited funds, the project team was directed to build as much as possible, balancing the need for minimal maintenance, and the need to conceal or hide the maintenance buildings as much as feasible. The primary maintenance building, which is made of tilt-up pre-cast concrete wall panels and a flat roof, includes staff offices and support areas, as well as truck and tractor maintenance along with vehicle storage areas. This building was bermed to minimize the visual impact and conserve energy related to heating and cooling the building. The second structure is used for golf cart re-charging, cleaning, and storage. Although it was an initial goal to bury the entire cart storage building (since it is in a highly visible location) a compromise was made to place half of the structure below grade to avoid excessive costs. Golfers continue to have views of the woods over the gable roof. Bunker Hills Golf Course, owned by the City of Coon Rapids, is a scenic and nationally recognized course.
