CITY OF GLENCOE & MnDOT JOINT PUBLIC WORKS FACILITY
Glencoe and MnDot joint public works was designed as a new facility:
16,354 square feet
Completion in June of 2000
Construction cost: $1,200,000.00
The design incorporates the building standard requirements of Mn/DOT (i.e. bay sizes, equipment specs, layout, etc.) and those of Glencoe, including both complementary and diverse requirements. Both parties preferred a utilitarian, sloped roof design with numerous drive-in bays. Shared vehicle maintenance, lockers, restrooms, storage and lunchroom are provided within the center of the building. This group of spaces is flanked by a large separate vehicle storage space for each party that opens to the south or rear elevation. Offices for both parties and for the state patrol are included at the front of the facility. One of the interesting aspects of this project is that MnDOT used overhead radiant heat and the city used in-floor radiant heat at their respective vehicle storage areas. This allows for a side-by-side comparison of the two different heating systems. This facility is one of the more successful; out-state Joint Powers vehicle storage and maintenance facilities. The project came in on budget and with minimal conflict despite the diverse and divergent goals, and the various requirements involved.
