Mahtomedi public works was designed as a new facility:

The new facility for the City of Mahtomedi consists of approximately 4,000 sq. ft. of vehicle maintenance space, 16,500 sq. ft. of vehicle storage space, 1,700 sq. ft. of shop space and 7,000 square feet of general office, locker rooms, storage and multipurpose space.   Many green building features were incorporated into this facility including: the surrounding old growth forest on site was largely preserved, the existing building on site was reused for cold storage, pervious pavements were used, low-e insulated glass was incorporated in all of the windows, living-wall features were included which will help control cooling costs in the summer, a storm water retention system is installed, and daylighting features are incorporated with the use of Solatube skylights.  In addition many sustainable interior finishes were included such as cork flooring, marmoleum flooring, and carpeting with pre and post consumer recycled content.
