We study and restore old buildings with a "dirty fingernail" approach.  In order to fully understand the various building systems, the condition of the structure and the history of the building, one must look into walls, check basements and explore the attics.  An old building can provide much information if one looks carefully for it.  We have found previously unknown terra cotta, drawings, evidence of old fires, bones, artifacts and other items key to the history of a building.
