Lake Harriet Residence

With direct views of Lake Harriet, an existing house and property was acquired by the owners so that it could be converted into their ideal house.  The historic, original, and highly decorative features that remained were retained and restored as necessary.  Due to prior remodelings, and a decor that did not meet the client's desires, a major renovation was performed on the remainder of house.  Consequently, significant demolition was required prior to the new work being performed.

One of the more significant changes was to convert an inner courtyard area into a skylit covered atrium.  Inspiration for the highly decorative ceiling came from an historic building on the campus of the University of Minnesota which the client had especially liked.

The completed house project has a new master bedroom and bath suite, library, kitchen, atrium, elevator and other assorted spaces.  The property also has a totally redesigned site with patio, stairs, barrier walls, planters and landscaping.

The homeowners have a considerable collection of artwork.  As a part of the project, all new mechanical, electrical, lighting and security systems, were incorporated into the project.  In order to properly conserve the artwork, a sophisticated control system was incorporated into the project to regulate temperature and humidity.
