Plymouth Public Works Facility Expansion
The first phase of the Plymouth Public Works Building was completed in 1992, when Jeff Oertel was project architect and project manager at BRW. The first phase included office space, vehicle storage area, support functions and mechanic's areas. It also included a large drive-through bay for fire truck maintenance with an in-ground maintenance pit. Oertel and staff spent considerable time working through tolerances and mock-ups in order to achieve an optimum design. In 1998 an expansion of the building was designed by Oertel Architects and included additional vehicle space, shops and storage. It also includes lighting upgrades to the original building, using lighting systems unavailable ten years earlier. The original building was planned for future expansion. Several of the original tilt-up precast concrete panels were simply removed and reused as a part of the building expansion. Today, it is difficult to discern between the original building and expansion.
