University of Minnesota Fleet Services Facility
The Fleet Services Facility was designed as a
new 25,000 square foot facility:
Although the facility is not officially a "Public Works Facility" it is similar in scope in that the 25,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility services virtually all cars, trucks, vans and agricultural vehicles within the university system. The building consists of a central office area, vehicle storage space, vehicle maintenance spaces, operational areas, a truck wash and a drive-through vehicle wash. The site includes a gas dispensing island and canopy, along with site parking. The main focus of the facility is the central maintenance space which includes multiple repair bays, central lube equipment, hose reels, water reels, overhead cranes, lifts, exhaust reels and related equipment. The elements were carefully integrated by design which results in a well organized and visually stimulating space. The large skylights and translucent wall panels often eliminate the need for artificial lighting. The exterior of the office component consists of a curved glass and aluminum curtain wall and a curved linear louver system, a distinct contrast to the concrete paneled facade of the vehicle areas. The office entry is readily apparent upon arrival.
