Oertel Architects designed the new MnDOT Clearwater Truck Station to support growing maintenance needs along the I-94 “Corridor of Commerce.” As additional lanes are added, MnDOT required expanded facilities to accommodate more plows, mechanics, and staff. The Class 3 satellite truck station includes space for nine plow trucks, a future tow plow, four mechanics, and office support areas.
The campus also features a salt building, storage bins, mechanic staging, and outdoor storage areas to improve operational efficiency. Designed in accordance with the Minnesota B3 Sustainable Building Guidelines, the project integrates practical sustainability strategies that will set a precedent for future MnDOT truck station development.
